Professor X's was born of parents who had worked on the first A-Bomb project. He is possibly the first such mutant like then X-Men. He can read peoples minds and project his own thoughts into the brains of others. When he was young people feared him and distrusted him. He realized that the human race was not ready to accept those with extra powers. Henceforth he decided to build a haven in the form of a school to take care and teach other mutants like himself. A school for the X-Men. This school is called Professor Xavier's School For Gifted Youngsters. His first students went by the code names of Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Beast, Angel and Iceman. His plan was that they would stay there unsuspected by humans, as they learn to use their powers for the benefit of man-kind. To help those who would distrust mutant if they knew of their existence. He explains that not all mutants are fighting for the good of mankind. Some hate the human race and wish to destroy it. Some feel that mutants should be the real rulers of the Earth. It is his job to train the X-Men to to protect mankind from those "evil mutants."

Due to a childhood accident he is confined to his wheel chair, but though a master control panel he has all his devises at his command and through his mind, he will always be in touch with his X-Men.
